It’s tough for both the body and mind to be dragging around a substantial amount of excess fat, but fortunately it doesn’t have to be as hard as many believe to shed the unwanted pounds – you just need to have the right methods to do it effectively.
Louise lost weight and got rid of her cellulite

Dorte lost 25.6 lbs of fat in 4 months, and threw out her bathroom scale
“Since 2009, I’ve been struggling with a worn-out hip that’s been super painful. And it’s gone! I’m no longer forced to take the painkillers I’ve been swallowing for so many years and especially more lately. I was going to get a hip replacement in the spring, which was the only way the doctors could help me. That’s now been postponed, with my next check-up pushed back by two years. I’m now feeling in much better shape and I’ve thrown out my bathroom scale!”*
“It was by chance that I chose Fortius Fitness, having been hooked by an ad that I saw on Facebook!
I’d done cardio workouts for years (I’ve run regularly since 1996), and had fallen into the trap of simply training and training – but absolutely nothing happened. All I achieved was a constant increase in hunger.
For years I’ve been training for an hour a day, every single weekday. I alternated among an hour on an exercise bike, an hour of running outdoors, and an hour at the gym doing LOOP strength training.
But not even that kind of strength training could inche me towards my goal of losing a few pounds. I started thinking a few years ago that things were moving in the wrong direction – right at the same time as I was just starting to enter menopause.
I’ve gradually gained about 25 lbs over the last 4-5 years, and haven’t been able to get rid of them again through the training I’ve been doing.
I’ve tried out two dieting programs where I’ve had guidance in the form of meal plans and certain foods being out of bounds, etc. But this hasn’t worked either. I’ve tried acupuncture to lose weight, and even hypnosis. Nothing has worked, at least not for the long term.
So at 55 years old and over 20 lbs overweight, I saw an ad for Fortius Fitness one day and thought it sounded great – I wanted to take the step.
When I saw the prices they were admittedly a bit tough to swallow (I am from Jutland after all).
I thought it over and came to the conclusion that you actually invest in yourself in such an incredible way, and if you can keep it up then it’s worth all the money to be strong and agile when you hit the retirement age.
It’s great being able to put on the pants you put away years ago. It gives a sense of well-being that’s really incredible.
More strength and less pounds are the prizes here, and they’re well worth fighting for! Throughout the course I’ve felt that ‘my case’ was under control.
Tina is a skilled trainer and she’s really good at explaining why you should do the various exercises, which is really important when you have to go out and train on your own one day!
We’ve continually talked through many of Fortius Fitness’ dietary strategies, and it makes good sense that you need a persistent change in the foods you bring home to eat.
I was totally convinced that I could never drop bread, but it really hasn’t been a problem because there are plenty of alternatives. All of Fortius Fitness’ dietary ‘advice’ makes sense as soon as you’ve gotten started. Personally, I thought it would be really hard for me, but it turns out it actually hasn’t. It also has to do with being a bit creative.

In 2009, I had an operation on a cyst in my rotator cuff. It meant that from then on I’ve had pains in the one side of my hip – because it was worn out and the cyst had created a “hole”!
At the same time, I took on a few more pounds and ramped up my running to lose weight.
That wore even more at my hip and eventually I was up to 8 painkillers a day, sometimes more. On some days I had to resort to taking morphine. At this time, I went to a check-up at the sports clinic, where I was advised not to do any strength training exercises or running that could strain my hip. I could swim! I hate swimming.
The exercises and training that Tina has shown me have given me so much strength in the muscles around my hip that I don’t take any medicine anymore (I’ve taken absolutely nothing the past 3 months and I’ve been training with Tina for 4 months).
I no longer have pain to the same degree as before.
I think the reason I feel so comfortable now is also because I no longer have all that medicine in my body. No more medication and 25.6 lbs lighter…It doesn’t get much better than that!
While I’ve pretty much stopped taking longer runs, I can now take shorter, 3-mile jogs without feeling any pain.
The process itself, when put in perspective, has been great and I have the utmost confidence that everyone – regardless of age – can really get something out of this course. Tina is a skilled and competent trainer who I’d very much recommend to others who’ve hit a wall or feel like they’ve been struggling down the wrong path.

Henrik lost 34.8 lbs of pure fat
“I’ve gone down 3 sizes in clothes and suddenly the baristas at the cafe are making hearts in my lattes. Never in my life have I lost weight so easily – the pounds have just fallen off. And what’s more important is that I feel healthier and better than I’ve felt in years”*
“When I contacted Fortius Fitness I’d lost 57 lbs on my own through diet and cardio.
I’d gotten to a point where I had no desire for doing more cardio exercises or cutting down further on calories.
On top of that, I had a strong desire to lose the unhealthy amount of fat that had accumulated on my upper body.
My body was probably what those in the real estate world would describe as a fixer-upper on the cheap end of town.
My rolls stuck out in the most surprising places and the skin had become looser and looser.
I wrote to Fortius Fitness, which paired me up with Simon, and I had a consultation booked with him.
I was pretty nervous about setting foot in a gym, as it’s most certainly not my natural habitat, as well as because an earlier attempt at strength training had ended up in disaster.
I was a little wary that Simon might be one of those beefcakes who could drive anyone with excessive body fat out of the centers.
My assumptions were proven immediately false. Simon was a totally normal person with a very fit, balanced body, and right away I felt like I was in safe hands.
I decided to park my vanity – along with my bike – right outside the center, and to tell him honestly about the way I’d been living: what I ate, how I’d always hated sports and strength training, what challenged me most and what I hoped to accomplish.
Simon understood immediately that my focus wasn’t on appearance but on health.
I was introduced to the dietary advice, which was completely reasonable and, fortunately, far from fanatical.
I felt well-assured and paid for a 3-month course.
Simon was in for a challenge, since I hadn’t lifted anything heavier than a glass of white wine in 10 years, and thus my starting point was at precisely zero.
But I’d decided to hand over control, do what I was told and trust him 100 percent.
With sure hands, he managed to teach me the techniques, strengthen my body and boost my self-esteem.
When we got to the first measurement after 14 days and it was time to count the rolls, I found I’d trimmed 3 inches around the waist. I was shocked at how easy it had been.
It was at my first measurement that it hit me that my joint work with Simon would change my perception of training while giving me some incredible results.
Plus, during that period I’d pretty much eaten constantly.
The training had made me hungry in an entirely new and aggressive way.
In the past, I’ve never had problems skipping meals – breakfast was not even on my radar. On some days I just wasn’t hungry and simply didn’t eat. Now I was constantly hungry, ferociously devouring my food.
I quit counting calories and started getting full on vegetables and meat.
Unfortunately, my course is over now, but wow have I gotten good value for my money.
When I started my course I was 229 lbs, with a fat percentage of about 28.
After 3 months I weighed 193 lbs. I’d lost 36 lbs – 34.8 of it pure fat.
My fat percentage is down to 15 and I’m now in the best category for my age group.
My stomach is tighter and I don’t look like someone who just gave birth to triplets.
I’ve gone down 3 sizes in clothes and suddenly the baristas at the cafe are making hearts on my lattes. Never in my life have I lost weight so easily – the pounds have fallen off. And what’s more important is that I feel healthier and better than I’ve felt in years.

Simon (or the miracle maker, as my friends call him) is a wonderful, funny and warm-hearted person.

I’ve looked forward to every single training session with him.
Even when I’ve shown up grumpy after a rough day at work, I’ve never left the training without having been put in a much better mood.
He’s taught me to love training and shown me that you can achieve incredible results – without starving or training yourself half to death.
If you’re doing it right, it’s really surprising how little is needed.
It’s exactly this attitude and balance that I was unknowingly after and that I’ve adopted as my own.
I’ve now started to train on my own and it doesn’t seem crazy at all to get up and exercise at 5:30am – something that was unthinkable 4 months ago.

“I looked myself in the mirror one morning and saw a young girl who wasn’t happy at all. At that moment it hit me in that a change needed to happen.
I searched around online for a while to find the best place to get a kick in the ass from a trainer with the right qualifications.
To start with, I considered Fitness World, but of having everyone watching me – as I sweat, struggle and get a hold of the exercises – drove me quickly away from them.

“My name is Josefine Bucan. I’m 43 years old and live in Birkerød. My typical day is spent sitting – in an office.
I’ve always had a hard time with my weight and – despite a very active youth with lots of badminton – I’ve never been really slim.
My whole life I’ve struggled with excess pounds. The 73 lbs I took on during my second pregnancy didn’t really help. I’ve tried A LOT of different crash diets, and some of them even work – for a short time, anyway – but then all the pounds pile on again (along with the works)!

Up to this point I’d only played badminton, jogged (with a knee injury to show for it) and taken various cardio classes at the gym – though all without becoming slim… so the weight training thing was totally new for me.
It was surprisingly fast and easy to learn the techniques, and thanks to Anna’s patient nature and her good advice, guidance and instructions, I quickly grew stronger and could lift more than I’d thought possible.
So beyond slimming down around the waist, my body has become quite a bit stronger – which is a really nice feeling that makes you happy and proud.
On top of that, Anna is super good at focusing on form – so you don’t get hurt. She’s also super good at discussing diet with you. For example, if you’re panicking a bit over having eaten a bit too much candy (like me), she’s very relaxed about it and sets you at ease again.
I’d paid for a course of 14 sessions – and in the 2 months we went through I lost 15 lbs of fat and 13.4 inches (5.5 of them around the tummy) – Yay!
I haven’t reached the target just yet – but a course with Anna has given me the necessary belief that I absolutely CAN reach my goal – of becoming slim and looking good in the mirror. I had to search for a while before finding a picture that could only approximately document how overweight I was all those years. It turned out that I own not a single photo from the time I weighed the most – about 45 lbs heavier than in the “before” photo shown here.
What the picture does show, however, is roughly how I looked when I started training.
At that time, I’d lost those 45 lbs through changes to my diet, but from here I’d suddenly hit a wall, and for the next 5 months my weight barely budged.

“Stress, yo-yoing weight and an imminent trip to Australia – where I’d like to look presentable in summer clothes – got me to begin my most awesome training course with a personal trainer to date.
I signed up for the course at Fortius Fitness after much consideration, as it would be time consuming and it was also the first time I’d ever be spending so much money on myself.
I’m a horse vet with my own equine veterinary practice and in my free time I’m an active dressage rider. It’s a physically demanding job with quite a few challenging working positions. In my free time I train my horses and often have trouble with balancing without tightening my back, lower back and calves.
Mostly, I want to stay in shape to feel good, to feel comfortable in the clothes I like, and to be able to remain a veterinarian and rider without the pains. I gain weight easily and, especially at stressful times, I’ve always struggled with opting for healthy food rather than the easy but unhealthy food I often find at gas stations when I travel around the country.
I’ve tried many diets over the years and bought many years of membership at the gym – though most often I only put it to use a few times. Once, I hired a personal trainer for 3 months. Over the last 2 years I’ve been doing some running and this year I completed 2 half-marathons. And though I’ve been proud of that, I’ve actually gained some weight.

I contacted Fortius Fitness and got a quick reply, and as I’m always quick at making decisions whenever something feels right, I began my first training on the very same day as having my initial consultation, which – needless to say – was very positive.
From day one, I had the experience of landing in a place where the trainers were well-educated and knew what they needed to do, both in terms of training and diet.
At the same time my trainer was incredibly good at being friendly and understanding my situation so that I felt secure and good about training there – despite being so embarrassed to be struggling with weight.

I had a really hard time with the squat, even without weight, but we drilled it again and again and today I can execute a perfect squat. It’s especially great because I’ve always said that there’s no way my body could do that.
By two weeks I’d already dropped the first 6 lbs and lost a lot of inches. This totally whet my appetite to keep going and to push even harder with both the diet and the training.
After four weeks I’d lost a total of 11.2 lbs and 9.8 inches had been peeled off. It feels great and I haven’t gone hungry – I’ve eaten good, filling meals every day.
I’d challenge you to name me a diet I haven’t tried – juice, retro, NUPO, etc. etc. I’ve always had significant weight loss but not without the accompanying feelings of hunger and fatigue.

“And moving on to the strength training, which I never believed I’d be able to figure out or be happy with – as far as I knew, strength training was just something for guys who were training to get big muscles. That’s turned out to be far from the truth. It’s absolutely also for girls/women, and I must admit that I’ve been convinced by my own body”*
“After having had two slipped discs in my neck in the summer of 2016, my weight went up from 115-120 lbs to being the highest it’s ever been: 162 lbs, along with a chest that had grown significantly.
After a talk with both my physical and manual therapists, we came to the conclusion that it would be good for my health to investigate whether I qualified for a breast reduction, as my chest has always been naturally large and pretty detrimental to both my back and my neck.
My doctor didn’t doubt for a second that it could easily be done, though with one single “but”: I’d probably have to lose a good 10 lbs or perhaps even more in order to get down to my normal weight group.
My appointment at the hospital was two months later, so I tried out the training I’d had with a previous physiotherapist, while being mindful of what I ate.
But despite doing those two things, nothing happened with the weight, and I received a new deadline from the hospital. I now had 3 months to lose at least 10 lbs or perhaps more in order to have the operation approved.
As such, I did some research on what was on offer in terms of a personal trainer, and several times I came across an ad for Fortius Fitness, that I eventually went in and checked out.
What caught my attention were the really good stories and experiences of others, as well as that here you could train alone with your personal trainer. When I had my non-binding consultation, my clear goal was to lose weight in order to have the operation. I was also after a strong body that could follow me the rest of my life, as it’s not something you can simply replace when it no longer works.
I also wanted to be happy with my body again and to get a workout that worked, a program I could relate to as well as help to build further on my progressive training while also knowing how to do it.
Not least, I wanted help with a diet that would get me on the right track, and help to lose the pounds I’d gained. Who wouldn’t want to lose 11 lbs or even more?
In December, after we’d had our consultation, I started up my course with the diet, following Fortius Fitness’ food pyramid.
Already at that point things started moving – despite that over the holidays you eat quite a bit, including a lot of unhealthy things – so I was 110% focused on losing weight and only used the free meals that I was allowed.
When I started my training in January, I’d already lost the first few pounds, so I was even more fired up to lose more and to get the drive – in working with my trainer – that was needed to reach the goals I was headed towards.
Since half of my time is spent on the water – where I work 14 days before being off for 14 days – I’d be on my own half of the time from the start.
But with really good guidance and an invitation from the trainer to get in touch with her any time, whether I had any questions about training or just wanted advice or support – I could do it.
Now that I’ve been in my course since January, and have had all my allotted sessions with her, I’ve lost up until now 18.7 lbs.
And moving on to the strength training, which I never believed I’d be able to figure out or be happy with – as far as I knew, strength training was just something for guys who were training to get big muscles.
That’s turned out to be far from the truth. It’s absolutely also for girls/women, and I must admit that I’ve been convinced by my own body.
I’ve also become completely confident in my training and have my focus in the right place. Not least, I now have motivation, which has gotten my colleagues at work started with the things I’ve been doing.
It’s an amazing feeling to look back at the best course I ever could have imagined, and not least to have gotten my self-confidence completely back on track.
I’m not at all depressed seeing my body in the mirror or asking for a new uniform at work in a size 2 and thinking back to being a size 6 in November/December. It’s definitely a huge victory.
I also feel more fresh and have become so excited to train that I no longer care so much about where – as long as I can carry on with my program.
I’m not at all ashamed of my body and what I do. I now do it with my head held high and tell myself:
“I can do this.”
For having come so far, I can thank myself – and not least my trainer.
I have the momentum to keep on training and I know I will for the rest of my life, to keep my body strong and to feel good about myself.
I know that I can easily train, despite having had two slipped discs, one of which plagued me with pains in my right side, making me completely lose my grip on things. I can now train with full strength without being hampered by pain.
It’s an incredible feeling of relief to be left with.
I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to do this without the course. It’s the best investment I’ve ever made on my own body and I will certainly place myself in the competent hands of my trainer once again once I’ve had the operation and been given the green light to start training again.
She is without a doubt the best support and strength that you can have, and is so incredibly skilled at what she does.
